RONGOTEA.
CARD EVENING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) RONGOTEA, July 18. Tho second of a series of card evenings under the auspices of the Rongotea branch of the Women’s Institute was held the other evening, the hostess being Mrs R. M. Bower. The winners were Mrs J. Will and Mre A. N. Morcom respectively. These evenings, apart from bringing in funds for the institute, are proving to be very popular and many more are to be looked forward to during the winter evenings. KOPANE INSTITUTE MEETING. At the July meeting of the Kopane branch of the Women’s Institute, Mrs E. Morgan presided over a good attendance. Mrs F. Thomson, who has recently left the district, was presented with two handsome cup and saucer sets by Mrs Morgan on behalf of her fellow members. The competition prepared by Mrs Morris was won by Mrs Morgan with Mrs Revington-Jones and Mies Boddy taking second places. A novel procedure was the exchange of favourite recipes, and the exhibition of samples of same. Two of the members combined efforts, and brought their sample in the form of a huge thermos of 60up which was greatly enjoyed by those present. The “Bring and Buy” efforts resulted in £1 profit towards the delegates’ expenses, each one receiving good value for her shilling. After a dainty supper the evening closed with the singing of the National Anthem. SOCIAL CLUB. The euchre party held in the Masonio Hall was again well patronised on Thursday evening, the prize winners being:— Ladies, Miss Hazel Morris; consolation, Mrs G. Baylis; men, Mr W. J. Amies; consolation, Mr Duncan Fraser. The competition for the points prizes is becoming very interesting as there are only two more evenings before the final, and very few points separate the leading players.
