UNREST IN EGYPT
STRIKE AT ALEXANDRIA. POLICE FIRE ON MOB. BRITISH TROOPS SUMMONED. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received July 16, 11 a.m. CAIRO, July 15. There is a general strike at Alexandria; it was instigated by the Wafd Party. Youths broke shop windows and ston•d the police to-day. There were cheers of: “Long live Nahas Pasha!” Europeans took refuge in the Stock Exchange. The police fired on the mob from the roof of the Law Courts, inflicting heavy casualties, the dead being removed in carts. It is reported that British troops have been summoned from Cairo. REVOLT STORY DENIED. LONDON, July 14. Makram Ebeid Bey, Minister of Finance in Nahas Pasha’s Cabinet, is at present on a visit to London with jther Egyptian members of Parliament. He denies the report that the Wafd Party or Nahas Pasha meditates a revolution and the establishment of a Republic or Regency. The London Daily Mail’s diplomatic correspondent declares that “Egypt is on the verge of revolution. The Wafd Party is determined to win supreme power.”
