THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. An anti-cyclone extends from Sydney to Northern New Zealand, but pressure is still of the westerly type in southern latitudes. South-westerly to westerly winds moderate generally, but strong at times about Cook and Foveaux Straits. Seas rough in Foveaux Strait; elsewhere smooth to moderate in New Zealand waters. ’ South-west winds in the Eastern Tasman Sea, backing to west and north-west in the southern portion; moderate to • fresh with generally moderate seas. Weather changeable and showery in the West Coast and southern districts of the South Island; some scattered showers also on the West Coast of the North Island. Mainly fair to fine in eastern districts. Temperatures cool to moderate.
DISTRICT REPORT. IMPROVEMENT EXPECTED. The Government meteorologist wired. to-day: Tho indications are for moderate to strong southerly winds, decreasing after about 16 hours. Tho weather will improve to-morrow. The barometer is rising. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon. —6ins.
