RAILWAY DISMISSALS.
MEETING AT HILLSIDE. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, July 15. A mass meeting at the Hillside Railway Workshops passed a resolution disapproving of the Minister’s suggestion of rationed work as being class taxation and urging him to cancel all the dismissals until the Railway Commission’s report is available. The meeting expressed the opinion that the pruning knife should have been first applied to the high paid officials responsible for the present conditions, and directing attention to many useless positions created under the reorganisation scheme, urging also the suspension of the Railways Magazine which costs nearly £BOOO per annum. EVIDENCE BEFORE COMMISSION. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 15. Arrangements have been made for the Royal Commission investigating the position of the railways to visit Auckland, Christchurch and Dunedin, the dates of arrival to be notified in advance. To expedite matters it is desired that typewritten evidence should be submitted by representative persons and organisations.
