A SAD CULMINATION.
TO BRIEF REUNION. LATE MR CONNELL’S DEATH. A private letter has been received in Palmerston North describing the events associated with the death of the late Mr F. W. Connell under somewhat sudden circumstances in England recently. ... • Shortly after their arrival in England, the late Mr Connell accompanied Mr C. E. Dempsy, also of Palmerston North, to the Empire Pageant in Hyde Park, London, where they became separated in the crowd. It transpired that subsequently Mr Connell collapsed and was taken to St. George’s Hospital. Efforts to ascertain his identity were rewarded by . a search of his pockets which disclosed a letter containing the address of his sister with whom he had been staying in Surrey. Having been communicated with, Mr Connell’s sister proceeded to London and when lie had recovered sufficiently he was taken to her home. Favourable reports were made concerning his condition and he was expected to regain his full vigour in a short time, but death suddenly intervened. Apparently in fair health Mr Connell retired at 10 o’clock one night and shortly afterwards his sister heard a noise and investigating discovered her brother dying. She was with him in his last minutes, and his death came under infinitely sad circumstances following a week’s reunion with his sister, from whom he had been parted for 27 years. _ Angina pectoris was responsible for the demise of Mr Connell, who did not suspect the nature of hie illness. He had led an active life on board ship while voyaging to England, and a most pleasurable trip culminated with the sudden tragedy of his passing in peaceful Surrey.
