SAFETY FIRST.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—lsn’t it about time that something drastic was' done to stop the unlawful habit of cyclists using the footpaths instead of the road ? It is not just the children who make a habit of this dangerous practice but grown-ups. It’s about time that stricter watch was kept on tho pavements that are not right under the policemen’s eyes; also the sub-way, where cyclists dash down the incline and round the corner. It’s not fair to the pedestrian, as it is hard enough to walk on some of the footpaths owing to holes, etc., without lwving to dodge the law-break-ing cyclists.—l am, etc., FERGUSON STREET QUARTER.
