THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. A slight low-pressuro wave crossed tho Dominion yesterday. An anticyclone extends from South-Eastern Australia over the Tasman Sea. Winds moderate south-westerly north of New Plymouth and Napier, elsewhere northwesterly to westerly, becoming strong in Cook and Foveaux Straits, later hacking to south-westerly in the south. Seas rough in Foveaux Strait and later in Cook Strait; elsewhere in New Zealand waters west to south-west winds, moderate in the northern portion with moderate seas; strong in the southern portion with rather rough seas. Weather mainly fair, but some showers in tho western districts and south of Dunedin. Moderate temperatures. DISTRICT REPORT. COOL AND CHANGEABLE. The Government meteorologist wired to-day: The indications are for moderate to strong southerly winds. The weather will probably be cool and changeable, with scattered showers, but will be improving later. The barometer lias a rising tendency. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon. —3in.
