BUILDING AT HOSPITAL.
DOMINION TIMBERS WANTED. “I don’t see that there is any necessity for the use of Australian hardwood in the flooring,” commented Mr A. E. Mansford a/t the monthly meeting of the Palmerston North Hospital Board, when referring _to the new block. “I take it that New Zealand materials are being used wherever possible,” he added, “seeing that the money is raised by taxation here, and the milling industry is in the position that it is.” The managing-secretary stated that the only other imported material was redwood sashes for the Nurses’ Home. Mr Mansford: Totara used to be provided, and no objection was taken. The managing-secretary: Totara sashes require frequent painting. Mr Mansford: There are certain objections to redwood too. The chairman (Mr J. K. Hornblow) stated that, with the exception of the flooring, all the timbers in the new block were New Zealand milled. It was decided that New Zealand materials should be given preference over imported ones wherever possible.
