GENERA.L FORECAST.
The depression has deepened over New Zealand, and a cyclonic centre has formed west of the South Island. Barometers have fallen again over the Tasman Sea. IVinds moderate to strong generally, northerly over the North Island and north-east to east over the South Island, but later tending southerly everywhere. Seas rather rough generally in New Zealand waters. Strong southerly winds and rough seas in the Eastern Tasman Sea. Weather dull generally with mist or fog in places, especially on tho East Coast of the South Island. Further general rain with many heavy falls; thunder likely in places from Canterbury northward. Temperatures becoming colder. DISTRICT REPORT. CLOUDY AND UNSETTLED. Tho Government meteorologist wired to-day: Tho indications are for moderate southerly winds and freshening. The weather appears likely to be cloudy and unsettled, and rain is probable. Conditions will become colder. The barometer is rising. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon.—6ins.
