PERSONAL. (From Our Own Correspondent.) MARTON, May 14. Miss M. K. Simpson and her brother, George, who, are making an extended tour overseas, are at present resting in London, having vieited Australia, South Africa, Egypt, Italy, Switzerland, Austria and tho Riviera. They will spend several months in Britain ere returning to New Zealand and their home at Bonny Glen, Marton. Mr C. C. Southey is a Huntorville visitor to Tauranga. Miss Norma J. Percy has been appointed to the staff of the Huntervillo School in place of Miss G. Roberts, transferred. Mrs C. C. Jackson, Dominion president of the Women’s Division, Farmers’ Union, is a visitor to Hunterville. Rev. H. E. Jones and Mrs Jones, of Napier, are the guests of Mrs H. Meyers, ‘‘Mount View,” Marton. GENERAL. At a meeting of the Hunterville School Committee tho headmaster reported that the attendance had been 150 out of a roll number of 162. It was mentioned that' the capitation grant would bo £2O less thiß year. Messrs R. M. S. Jones and R. Dukerson and Dr. Pitcaithley were appointed to represent tho school on the dental clinic committee. While a car owned by a Palmerston North resident was being attended to at a local garago last evening, it caught fire and a considerable amount of damage was dono to tho bodywork. It appears that the petrol overflowed to the mechanism and when the engine was started tho spark of tho starter ignited the fuel. Nominations closed last evening for offices under tho Marton Jockey Club. As only the required number of gentlemen were nominated, no election is necessary. The positions filled are: President, Mr R E. Beckett; vice-presidents, Messrs L. M Richards, F. R. H. Brice and D. G. Riddiford, and Dr. S. Skerman; treasurer, Mr D. G. Riddiford; committee, Messrs J. R. L. Stanford, Lloyd Hammond, J. MeDonell, James Bull and A. T. Gatrell. Mr S. J. Gibbons did not seek re-election to the committee. A bogey match played by tho Marton Ladies’ Golf Club was won by Miss S. Miles and Miss B. Urooke, each 3 up. Other good cards returned were those of Miss AVylde-Browne, 1 up; Mrs G. Brown, 4 down; and Mrs K. Glasgow, 4 down. MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

Mr R. M. Wilson, S.M., presided at a sitting of tho Court at Marton to-day. Andrew Ryland, for permitting the use of an unregistered motor-car, was fined £2 and costs 10s. Miss Helen Iris Crooko was charged with operating an unlicensed vehicle. Defendant was represented by Mr Stanford, who entored a plea of not guilty. The information was dismissed, tho Magistrate holding that defendant had not had a ‘‘reasonable chance” of registering tho vehicle. Alan Hill, who was found on licensed premises during unlawful hours without a awful excuse, was fined £1 10s and costs 10a. Albert Mulford, Mark Williams and Robert Ramsay, who were similarly charged, wore each fined £1 10s and costs 10s, Lawrence E. Whale, a prohibited person, was charged with obtaining liquor while so prohibited. A fine of 20s and costs 12s was imposed. William A. Jellyman was fined 20s accosts 10s for operating a motor-lorry wh-u was not equipped with a drivers reflector. Joseph F. Oakley was charged with failing to keep to tho left of a traffic dome and was fined £1 10s, costs 12s. Norman S. Tankersley was charged with approaching an intersection at a speed exceeding 15 miles an hour and with operating a car with an inefficient foot brake. The foimer charge was admitted and the latter defended, Mr Williams appearing for defendant. Tho case arose put of a collision , between a car driven by defendant and a cvclist. A fine ot £1 10s was imposed on tho first charge, costs being £1 2s. Evidence was called regarding the second count, after which the Magistrate adjoined the case in order that evidence may be called regarding the distance in which the car was pulled up after the accident. Judgment was given for Catherine Ward for £5 against W. E. J. Humphries, costs being £1 2s bd, in a civil claim.
