Competition games for Saturday are as follows: Senior. —Ilui Mai v. Rongotea, at Sanson ; Oroua Downs v. Awahuri, at Oroua Downs. Junior. —Hui Mai v. Huia, at Sanson, 1.15 p.m.; Rongotea v. Oroua Downs, at Rongotea. The senior game at Sanson should provide an interesting contest, as tho local toain is improving, but the visiting fifteen should bo on top when the final whistle blows. Tho Iluia juniors will have no difficulty in securing another win and it seems a pity that this team is not playing senior. They are apparently a class above the juniors this year and one-sided games are not in tho best interest of the sport generally. 'learns for Saturday’s games will bo as follow: Hui Mai senior.—Douglas, Sanson, Jenkins, Nicol, Ingram, Chapman, Yorke, Tattle, Taylor, Harmon, Coats, Pearce, Terry, Richardson, Bailey, McCabe, Gibson, D. BRITISH RUGBY TEAM. CIVIC RECEPTION. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 15. Tho visiting British Rugby team vyas accorded an enthusiastic civic reception here this afternoon, the Deputy-Mayor (Mr M. F. Luckie) presiding. Mr Luckie read an apology from the Premier, regretting that circumstances made it impossible for the Government to be represented, and expressing liis personal good wishes for a happy stay in the Dominion. Mr Luckie assured the visitors that a welcome would be extended them just as fully in other parts of New Zealand as in Wellington, and that everything would be done to make tho tour a complete success. He was sure the highest traditions of the game would he maintained, win or lose. The president of the New Zealand Rugby Union, Dr. G. Adams (Wanganui), mentioned that 1930 was the diamond jubilee year of Rugby in New Zealand. No more worthy representatives could come to our shores to honour the occasion, and lie hoped that the visit would precede a much greater happening in Rugby—that of an Empire codo being played under Empire management. He was sure that when | the team left New Zealand it would appreciate not only our loyalty to the Empire, but also to the International Rugby Board of Control. New- Zealand looked forward to the foundation of true Empire Rugby, and he hped that tho team would help the country in its effort to attain at least a little representation in the management of Rugbyin our Empire. Other speakers were Dr. McKvedy, president of the Wellington Rugby Union, Mr Kingi Tawhiri, Maori Advisory Board representative on the New Zealand Union, and Cr. W. F. Bennett, of the Wellington City Council. Mr Baxter, in reply, said that the occasion was “embarrassingly delightful.” Ever since the Rangitata had dropped anchor it had been one long sequence of meeting delightfully-kind people. He knew the team was up against a “tough proposition” and would have to train assiduously. His views on Rugby control were wellknown, he said, adding that the team was here primarily to play- football, and he could not discuss matters affecting control. The team would play hard and fair. The team would nnturally be pleased if victory came its way, but if defeated it would take off its hat and sav: “Good luck to you.” ‘Mr F. D. Prentice, the captain, also briefly- expressed the team’s appreciation of tlie welcome given it. NEW ZEALAND TEAM IN WHITE. INDIGNATION GROWING. Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, May 1-5. Local Rugby Union officials, referees, past and present footballers, and sportsmen generally are indignant at I the decision or the New Zealand I Rugby Union that the New Zealand I representative team when it meets the [British team will play in white jerseys. One and all are of the opinion that I it is courtesy carried too far, and that lif any team should be asked to change I its colours it is the visitors. It is stated that when the Englishmen chose dark blue they knew quite well that the New Zealanders had worn all black uniforms ever since they began

to take so prominent a place in international Rugby. Among those who have voiced their disapproval are Mr J. Richardson, vice-captain of the 1924 All Blacks; Mr J. R. Bell, vice-captain of the 1925 Maori team to England and France; Mr J. W. Stead, vice-captain of the 1905 All Blacks, and Mr A. J. Geddes, Southland and New Zealand selector.

WAIRARAPA’S PROTEST. Per Press Association. MASTERTON, May 10. The management committee of the Wairarapa Rugby Union has decided to make an emphatic protest against the action of the New Zealand Rugby Union in changing the All Blacks’ uniform to white, and to ask all the Rugby unions in New Zealand te support ' its protest, also to request the New Zealand Rugby Union to reconsider its decision. COOKE TO PLAY FOR HUTT. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 15. A. E. Cooke arrived in Wellington last night. He has deckled to play for Hutt, and wilL don the jersey on Saturday week. Cooke will not be eligible for selection in tire Wellington team to meet the British side on June 3. FRENCH TEAM. australianTnvitation. SYDNEY, May 15. The New South Wales Rugby Union has decided to invite the French Union to send a team to Australia in the near future.
