(From Our Own Correspondent.) SHANNON, May 8. Parents’ night at the Girls’ Club on Tuesday evening was attended by a large number o£ parents and friends of club members. The girls gave a 6hort musical and elocutionary programme, receiving applause for their efforts, and served their guests with a dainty supper. The first of the winter afternoon euchre parties was commenced by the croquet ladies on Tuesday, when Mrs J. Aim secured the trophy. Mr J. Perivano is an inmate of the Palmerston North Hospital with a dislocated shoulder. Mr and Mrs Surridge, who left this week for Kurow, whither Mr ' Surridge goes on transfer, were tendered a farewell social on Monday evening by the staff of P.W.D., Mangaone. The District Commissoiner of the Girl Guides, Miss A. Kebbel, of Levin, and Captain M. Sim, of Palmerston North, paid a visit to the looal guides on Wednesday afternoon. Captain Sim was acting as judge of the local troop who are entrants in a competition being run among the companies of the district. The Rev. G. Young, vicar of the Veil. Bede’s Church, is at present on holiday at Pieton. Rev. J. Fagan, of Wellington, is in charge of the parish during the vicar’s absence.
