(From Our Ovvn. Correspondent). ■Q v «;; - TAIKOREA, April 16. Last -week's rain was very welcome in this district. Tho grass was dry and brown, vvhtio tho question ot how long the tank water would last was- -becoming serious. It was also feared that, owing to-the hard condition of the ground, floods would fol-low-tho rain; happily, this was not so. On Tuesday, Bth April, the physical drill instructor, Koydhouse, visited tho 'Taikorea School. The matter of installing swimming baths at the school was brought up by lnm, but the fact that it is .practi: cally impossible to got a llow of artesian water at the school or nearby is a . big handicap. Tho matter i 3 being looked into by the school committee, we understand. Mr Roydhousc gave the children un exhibition of the latest life-saving methods for exhausted, swimmors or those in difficulties, and they displayed great, interest. On Friday evening tho first euchre and dance of the season was held in tho Taikorea Hall. The night was fine, with the result that the attendance was very good. Play was very keen, and .the. prizes were closely contested for, tlireo gentlemen, Messrs M. Hehir, Fester and J. Roto, with nine games each out ,of a possible twelve, cutting for the men’s prize.' Mrs L. Mudford won the ladies’ prize.. Air l’oto being the lucky ono among the men. Consolation prizes went to Miss lone Hehir and Air A. Castles. After tho prizes • had been presented, supper was distributed by the ladies, after which dancing was continued till a late hour. The music , was kindly supplied by three gentlemen - front Rangiotu, extras being played by Mrs Hill. ’The Taikorea chceso faotory is now over the busiest part of tho season.. Tho third' assistant, All- Bailey, has now left, as tho milk supply is dwindling daily. The cheese for tho last month is graded 92; there are now 11 export and 16 medium being made daily; while the milk handled is 14,0001b5. pdr day. Tho pay-out per lb. buttorfat for the montli will bo Is 2d. Air and Airs E. C. Prent.are at present on a motor tour of Auckland and district. Mr and Airs Altidford, son., are spending a short holiday at Foxton Beach.
