KIRK-WINDEYER CUP. NEW ZEALAND WINS FOURSOMES. Per Frees Association. CHRISTCHURCH, April 16. New Zoaland won both matches in the foursomes section of the Kirk-Windeyer Cup contest against New South Wales. Macfarlano and Horton beat Hattersley and Keane, six up. Black and Rose bent Leo Brown nnd Dobson, four up. The first match actually ended five up and four to play, and tho second four up nnd three to play. The beet index of the splendid form shown by Horton and Macs farlane in their match is to be found in the score cards of the rival pairs. HORTON AND MACFARLANE. The game produced the most brilliant golf ever seen in foursomes at Shirley. The New Zealanders set off at a pace no one could match. They went out in 32, five under the scratch score of tho course and turned four up in the homeward journey. New South Wales, by excellent play, won back two holes and finished tho morning round two down. They began the afternoon round badly, losing the first two holes. Two holes later tho New Zealanders increased their lead to five up. Then tho New South Welshmen won two holes back, but the New Zealanders turned four up. Then Macfarlano and Horton showed a sustained burst of brilliance, returning over tho last liino holes in. four strokes less than the scratch score. Now South Wales did a sterling 36, but still lost two more holes. The other match produced sound golf by tho New Zealand pair, but without the spectacular brilliance shown by Macfarlano and Horton. They were on top early, and never once after the first nine holes allowed the New South Welshmen completely to wipo out the deficit. The scores were; Black and Ross, 73 —77 —150; Lee Brown and Dobson, 76—76 —152. At tho 24th hole, New South Wales had reduced the- lead to one, but suddenly fortunes changed, as they had previously, and the New Zealanders, with 3,4, 3, won three holes in n row and turned for the last lap four up. Both came home in 36, one under the scratch score,' and Nev) Zealand hold the lead of four up. Tho match really ended at the thirty-third, four and three. The draw for to-morrow has not yet been announced.
