FEILDING SALE. DULL MARKET. (Special to “Standard.”) FEILDING, April 17. Tho mid-week sale yesterday in Feilding attracted both a very small yarding of stock and an attendance of the public, and the prices obtained were scarcely an indication of market conditions. Most of the store sheep were passed and fats sold at more or less nominal value. Store cattle were in light supply and tho fat races were also understocked, tho beasts on sale not being of a gleat weight. Prices were as follow, , .. Fat Sheep.—Lambs, 13s 9d, 14s 6d, 15s, 18s; owes, 13s 2d, 15s Bd, 17s 7d; 2-tooths, 21s 6d, 265; wethers, 235. WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE. YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES. Seven sales -were reported on the Wellington Stock Exchango yesterday, and four of theso wore of bank shares. Government securities were again in fair domand. Tho 4i per cent, stocks (1939 and 1938) and bonds (1941) were steady at £97 10a; tho 4i per cent, bonds (1939 and 1938) were firmer at £97 15s, and the 4i per cent, bonds (1930) at £99 7s 6d; the 5i per cent. (1933) were steady, stocks at £99 5s and bonds at £99 7s 6d. Wellington Harbour Board debentures wdre in good demand tho 4i per cents. (1946) at £B3 7s 6d and tho 5i per cent. (1940) at £9B. Bank shares were slow with few buyers. Bank of Australasia at £l2 5s wore Is down and Australian Bank of Commerce w*ro wanted at 23s 6d, with sales the previous day at 24s 3d. National Bank of Australasia, £5 paid, were Is higher at £7 Is; Bank of Now South Wales were unchanged at £3B 15s, and Bank of New Zealand long term" were also unchanged at 26s 6d. Union Bank at £ll 15s were 2s 6d down on tho last bid. Thero wero many sellers of bank shares. In respect of other shares there was littlo business offering. Gas shares were steady with buyers of Auckland Gas at 23s 4d, and Wellington Gas at 30s, National Insurance wore 2d down at 14s 3d, but South British Insurance wero steady at 61s. Huddart-Parker wero up 6d at 38s 3d; Ivclburn Trams at 29s 6d show a sharp advance of 3s; Westport Coal wero wanted at 3s, and Kauri Timber wero firmer at 13s. The storo sheop entry showed littlo improvement in values. The best longwools and crossbred ewes improved by up to Is 6d a head, but the bulk of tho entry, halfbreds and Corricdales, receded by that much except for good sorts. Values averaged from 6id a lb to 7jd. y Tho yarding of fat sheep was about half tho normal size on account of tho holiday at the works. Tho fall last week of Is 6d a head was recovered to-day. Values were: Primo wethers to 30s lOd; prime wethers, 26s to 28s; medium wethers, 22s 6d to 25s 6d; light wethers, 18s to 225; extra primo ewes, to 25s 4d; primo ewes, 18s to 21s; ordinary ewes, 15s to 17s; light and aged ewos, 10s to 14s. A small entry of 365 fat cattle came forward. The few good cattle showed a slight rise, other qualities' being practically unaltered. Best beef made from 38s to 41s per 1001 b; medium and heavy, 34s to 375; and indifferent down to 27s 6d; extra prime heavy steers, £lB to £22 12s 6d; prime heavy steers, £ls 5s to £l7 15s; primo medium weight steers, £l2 5s to £ls; ordinary quality steers, £9 15s to £l2; light steers, £8 to £9 2s 6d; extra primo heifers to £l3 17s 6d; primo heifers, £7 15e to £10; light heifers, £6 to £7 10s; extra prime cows to £l3 10s; prime cows, £9 15s to £l2 ss; ordinary cows, £7 5s to £9 10s; light cows, £5 to £7. Thoro was a dull sale for vealers with a drop of 20s to 30s a head. Tho top prico was £6 2s. The store cattle mado a poor yarding, both in numbers and quality. A pen of 2i-year steers ( was passed at £9 ss. Thoro was a good salo for cows close to profit. Values: Best £l3 to £ls; others, £9 to £l2 10s; best heifers to £l4 10s; good, £ll to £l3 10s; others, £7 to £lO 10s. Tho fat pigs mado a heavy entry, particularly porkers. Tho sale was slow. Values: Porkers, 48s to 555; heavy porkers, 58s to £3 3s; average price per lb, 7id to Bjd; light baconcrs; £3 10s to £3 17s 6d; heavy baconcrs, £4 to £4 10s; extra heavy baconers to £5 7s 6d; average price por lb, 6d to 6jd. Tho entry of store pigs was a largo one. All classes were decidedly easier, weaners selling with difficulty. Large stores, 35s to 41s; medium stores, 22s to 275; small stores, 17s to 21s; 'weaners, 4s 6d to 14s.
