MAWSON EXPEDITION.
SECOND YEAR’S PROGRAMME. Received April 16, 9.20 a.m. MELBOURNE, April 16. It is now almost certain that the Mawson Antarctic Researcli Expedition will return to the Polar regions next, summer in the Discovery. The Prime Minister, Mr J. H. Scullin, stated to-day that the second year’s programme was being favourably considered by the Federal Ministry. NEW ZEALANDERS RETURN. . Per Press Association. . AUCKLAND, April 15., Two New Zealanders who took part in the British, Australian and New Zealand Antarctic research expedition led by Sir Douglas Mawson have returned from Australia by tbo Ulimaroa. One, Mr y R. A. Falla., who was attached to the party as ornotho-i legist, is a member of the staff cf the Auckland Training College, and the other, Mr R. G. Simmers, is a member of the staff of the Government Meteorologist Office, Wellington. “The expedition was very successful, having achieved what it set' out to do,” said Mr''Falla. “Sir Douglas Mawson, by his enthusiasm and .energy, was an inspiration to everybody.”
