COUNTRY’S FINANCES.

STATEMENT TO BE MADE. A BRIEF FORECAST. • Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 15. A statement will be made by tho Premier,- probably this week, outlining in skeleton form the result of the country’s finances for the year. The public accounts for the financial year just ended will not be finalised by the Treasury until the end of this month, and as a further fortnight will be taken up in auditing them it will be about May 15 before detailed figures are Gazetted. In the meantime, however, the. Treasury is preparing for the Premier a brief forecast of the results, based on approximate figures. It is expected thnt the announcement of a small surplus will be a feature of the Prime Minister’s statement. In a telephonic communication from Rotorua, Sir Joseph Ward informed -a reporter that he would make his pronouncement soon, although he had not yet fixed the actual date.

The Secretary to the Treasury, Mr A. D. Park, has left Wellington for Rotorua and it is understood that his consultation with the Prime Minister will, concern the issue of the forecast referred to.
