CLAIM FOR MAINTENANCE.
GRAND-PARENTS AS DE’FEND- , ANTS. , , •. Owing to failuro to discover tho whereabouts of her‘husband. Dorohty Lloyd took proceedings in the Alagistrate’s Court ytesterday, before. Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., .against Thomas Lloyd, horse trainer, of Riccarton, and Mrs A. Maire, boardinghouse-keeper, of Taihape, grandparents of her two children, requiring them to contribute to their support. Mr Ongley appeared for complainant, Air - Lyon (Woodville) for Mr Lloyd, and Mr Cooper for Airs Maire. Complainant stated that she had been deserted by her husband some months ago. She was not earning sufficient to maintain herself and two children. Thomas Lloyd, who trained horses for Dr. Louisson, was the father of her Irusband, and had no dependants. Airs Ala ire was formerly his wife. No traeo had been found of complaint’s husband-: Her. mother had the two children, but-could, not afford to keep- them. Complainant said she had had no definite information of her husband’s whereabouts. Mr Lyon said tbit Thomas Lloyd was a private trainer for Dr., Louisson at Christchurch. Three weeks ago information had been given to Air Ongley as to where complainant’s husband had been working,,, but apparently nothing had been done. ’ Complainant’s husband was going under the assumed name of Molloy. It was rather hard that the grandparents have to pay. Tho Magistrate said that complainant needed some assistance. • Mr Lyon said that Thomas Lloyd was being paid £6 a week, but he .had numerous obligations to meet in respect of property. ! Mr Ongley stated that no word had been received from the police as to tho execution of a warrant for the arrest of complainant’s husband, bnt he had forwarded a letter to his father. Airs Maire stated that neither she nor her husband was in a position to contribute maintenance. The application was adjourned until April 28 to enable a further search to be made for complainant’s husband, Cyril Lloyd y ' ■
