FOXTON AS AIR PORT.

(From Our Own Corrsepondent). FOXTON, April 11. Stimulated by the arrival of four ’planes at the beach during the past week, the Foxton Chamber of Commerce is again taking up the matter of having Foxton registered as an air port. The arguments in favour of the proposal are that a natural aerodrome is possessed in the old river bed at the Heads; that the port is easily located from the air, being indicated by the Manawatu River and Kapiti Island; while the firm, sandy foundation provides a safe landing ground at all times, well protected by a belt of sand hills. The ground is conveniently located for refueling and other purposes on the inter-island air route. The area concerned is controlled by the, Foxton Harbour Board and there is very little chance of that body placing any obstacle in the way of the project. A generous offer has been made by a local resident to erect a hangar free of cost provided the material is donated. The Chamber of Commerce will at its next meeting formulate some proposal to submit to the Harbour Board and Government in connection with the matter.
