MEMORIAL TABLET.

UNVEILING AT RUSSELL. RUSSELL, April 11. In bright weather and in.the presence of a large gathering of Maoris and Europeans, .a memorial tablet on Alaiwi Hill,' at Russell, was unveiled at noon on Wednesday., Mr E. G. Hewin, chairman of the Russell Town Board, presided, and among the prominent natives present were 1 Mr Tau. Henare, M.P., Air Riri Maihi Kawiti, grandson of the famous Kawiti, and Air Hori Tane, grand-nephew of Hone Heke. Floating from the flagstaff were two large flags and a host of signal flags, while two other flags veiled the memorial tablet itself. Mr Hewin eulogised the Maoris and thanked Mr Morpeth for his generous gift: Mr F. Acheson, judge of the Native Land Court, and Mr Tau Hen•are also spoke. Mr Acheson and Mr Kawiti jointly performed the unveiling ceremony, and the people filed past the tablet. A.' feast followed, in which the Europeans and Maoris took. part.
