THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. A depression crossed the Dominion during Thursday night, and a shallow cyclone has since developed, in the Northern Tasman Sea, while pressure is high, over the whole of Australia. Strong northerly to easterly winds north of Kawhia and East Cape; elsewhere freshening from southerly to south-easterly; squally at times from Cook Strait northward. Seas rough on the East Coast and rising off the West Coast of the North Island, but moderate elsewhere. Moderate to strong south winds and rough seas in the Eastern Tasman' Sea. Weather cloudy and unsettled, with rnin in most districts; some heavy falls in the Auckland district, with thunder at places. Cold temperatures, more especially in the South Island, but improving soon in Westland. DISTRICT REPORT. A VERY COLD NIGHT. Tho meteorologist wired to-day: The indications are for southerly winds, moderately strong to gale force, and decreasing later. The weather will probably be cool and changeable, with showers, but will improve gradually. The night will probably be very cold, with frosts inland. The barometer is rising. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE.
