THE WEATHER. (From Our Own Correspondent.) ■ WOODVILLE, April 10. More welcome rain fell throughout the day, and, although the showers were scattered, a good Bupply of winter feed is practically assured. Reports from outlying districts are to tho effect that the downpour yesterday was general. Ne.w growth has already made its appearance. BOROUGH qOUNCIL. The usual monthly meeting of tho Woodville Borough Council waa Reid last evening, there being present :—The Mayor (pr. Horne) arid Crs. Pickering, McCormick, Johnston, Nicholas, Harding; Mackie, Rose and Sutton. 1 ' The borough foreman reported for the month of March a 3 follows: —Seventy-five cubic yards of metal have been carted and spread on Vogel Strcot, Pollen, Hall ,Adolo and York Street. The Vogel Stroot footpath from Ross Street to McLean Street had ben tarred and 6anded, and the spare snnd had boon swept off and cleaned up. The filter beds at the intake have beon cleaned out and the back line scoured out. Thre new groynos were put in below the dam. The Ormond Street footpath has boon weeded and cleaned, and silt is being spread on Vogel and Ormond Street footpaths to try and make tho metal set. Grass has beon cut at the fire station, and cleaned' up. Tho treatment works wore in order. \ A resident of Franklin Road wroto referring to the state in which the main creek wu in at the present time. Owing to the dry Bpell, some residents were obliged to use tho water in tho creek, and as dead eels and fish were seen in the water, it would bo readily understood it was not fit for human consumption. It was asked that tho council inspect- the creek. In reference to tho Mangapapa Stroam,. the Borough sanitary inspector stated there was no doubt a nuisance was being caused by. waste from a dairy factory. 1 He had previously brought the matter before tho factory and asked them to have the whey carted away by their suppliers. This he believed had not been carried out owing to the refusal of the suppliers to cart the whey away. It was his opinion that a septio tank would not solve the problem and he would not recommend the installation of one., A receiving tank might bo provided to recoive the whey, etc., and from there could be pumped into containers for removal. The matter wa3 discussed at length by councillors, and it was ultimately unanimously decided that the Mayor and town olerk consult tho borough solicitors. Tho District Highways Council forwarded a circular letter dealing witK the subject of super-elevation on curves on main highways. Instructions for calculating the grade and a graph were enclosed.—Received. The Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon. P. A. do la Porrolle) wrote to tho council informing them that arangements had been made on behalf of the Town Planning Board for a public inquiry to be held in the Borough Council Chambers, Napier, at 2 p.m. on May 19, for the purpose of hearing evidence trom interested persons to determine the boundaries of the > region comprising the borough of Napier and .surrounding districts, and hoped that it would be possible for the council to be represented.—lt -was decided that tho Mayor represent the council. The secretary of the Manawatu Football District Council wrote asking for the use of the recreation ground for tho coming season at the ..usual terms, namely, £lo. It was decided to grant the use of the ground under the usual terms. An invitation was received from the commanding officer and men of the Wellington East Coast Mounted Rifles for the Mayor and councillors to be present at tho ceremony of consecration and presentation of a guidon to be held at the camp on the Dannevirko racecourse on Sunday; April 13, at 2 p.m.—Received. The secretary of the Woodville Athletic Club wrote expressing the club's thanks for the excellent condition of the Recreation Ground. They would be pleased if the council could see its way clear to reduce tho price charged for tho use of the grounds for the meeting last month.—lt was decided to refund half the fees to the club. . Various minor matters were discussed, and it was decided on ■ tho motion of Cr Rose that it be a recommendation to the lighting committee .that electric light be installed in tho library. During the month the following licenses were issued:—Motor-drivers 3, dogs 49, Health Act 3, Public Hall 1, kerbside pumps 2, cart 1, building permits 5, heavy traffic (prop.) 1. The Mayor complimented tho town clerk on the financial statement presented, particularly the fact that out of £3125 of rat'es levied only £73 was outstanding. WOODVILLE COUNTY COUNCIL.

The following is the engineer’s report to be submitted at the monthly meeting of the Woodville Ciounty Council:—Woodvillo Riding: Minor metal repairs were carried out on Foley’s, Pinfold, Hopes and Oxford Roads. Hope’s Road was regraded. : Metalling is being dono on Saddle Road, and water-table# aro being cleaned. Minor repairs were carried out on Whariti Rood. Manga-atua Riding: Metal repairs were done on Troup’s and Judd’s Roads. Minor grading was done on Bluff Road, and widening and grading on Troup’s Road. Kumeroa Riding: Mefal repairs were carried oiit on River Road, Druce’s Road and Kumeroa township. Most of the roads in the riding will be completed in a few days. A temporary bridge was erected on Druce’s Road to carry motorcars and light traffic. Maharahara Riding: Minor .metal repairs were dono on Oringi, Kearney’s, Freelands, Graham’s and Sturdee Roads. Freeland’s Road is being graded, and repairs were effected as far as Charmley’a bridge. The bridge was completed and the approaches filled and metalled. Two teams were employed in dumping metal for Saddle Road and at Papatawa. One four-horse team .has been grading in Kumeroa. Teams have now been shifted to Maharahara Riding to replenish dumps. The Main Highway report for March is as follows:—Woodville-Palmerston North No. 1: Surface seal repairs were carried out, shoulders were repaired and sidedrains are being cleaned. Napier-Welling-ton via Wairarapa 12/5): Grading was done occasionally, but the road was too dry to have any lasting effect. Surface seal repairs were being carried out on No. 2 sector. Decking on some of the small bridges was repaired where necessary. Minor repairs were carried out on the shoulders. Water tables were cleaned. Wood-ville-Hopelande (6): Grading and minor metal repairs wero done where necessary. Tension rods were overhauled and screwed up on the Manawatu River bridge. Wood-ville-Tamaki (7/8): Repairs and grading wero carried out where necessary. The construction of Webb’s bridge will be completed in a few days. The Government grants report was as follows: Charmley’s bridge was completed and tho approaches filled in and metalled. Druce’s bridge: A start has been made and this should be completed shortly. Webb’s bridge will bo completed in a few days and when sufficiently seasoned will bo oponed for truffle. Saddle Road metalling: A start has been mado with this work, and all the long hauling completed.
