TROTTING. FIXTURES. April 19, 21.—Hawera T.C. Annual, April 19, 23. —N.Z. Metropolitan T.C. Easter. April 19.—Tuapeka County J.C. Annual (two events). April 21. —Beaumont R.C. Annual (two events). April 26.—Ashburton T.C. Autumn. April 30. —Reefton J.C. Autumn (two May 17.—Oamaru T.C. Winter. HAWERA TROTTING CLUB. CLOSING OF ACCEPTANCES. The annual fixture of the Hawera Trotting Club which will come up for decision on April 19 and 21 has always proved a highly attractive one and, with a total of £4OIO being offered this year, it is reasonable to expect that the 1930 meeting will prove an even greater success than previously. Local and district mentors contemplating being represented at the fixture aro reminded that acceptances close on Monday night at 8.30 o’clock. The nominations for the Australian Jockey Club’s St. Leger' of 1930 numbered 516, but at the date of tho first forfeit only 27 remained in the race. It may be regarded as pretty certain that there jv’il be a further marked reduction on April 17, when tho final forfeit becomes duo. Phar Lap, it is thought, may meet with slightly stronger opposition at Ramjwick than that which he encountered in the Y.R.C. St. Leger. All tho same, it is quite realised that the New Zealand gelding is much superior to any others of his age. The total value of the stake attached to* the A.J.C. St. Leger last year was £3322, the winner’s portion being £2447. ■ln the event of Phar Lap scoring, his winning record will receive an important addition. CANTERBURY NOTES. CHRISTCHURCH, April 10. For the past 12 months or so Mr J. R. McKenzie’s horses have not enjoyed more than a fair moasuro of success on tho racecourses, but it is quite on the cards that

Dolores will break the spell of bad luck at the coming meeting at Addington. She is in fine order and is trotting solidly in her work. Mr McKenzie, it is expected, will be quite content to wait for his younger 'horses to develop before launching out on a big scale, again, and ho has a number of very promising juveniles in work at Roydon Lodge. Among the juveniles is a throe-year-old trotting gelding by Silk Thread from Nyallo. This gelding was at Addington a few days ago, and he was not asked to do anything serious in the way of work, he showed nice action, and is evidently useful. Another youngster from which great things are expected is a yearling colt by Peter Chenault from the American-bred mare Nulgcria.
