COAL TROUBLE.
MEETINGS ON NORTHERFt FIELDS. SYDNEY, Ap-il 7. The coal miners held the first batch of aggregate meetings on the Northern fields to-day. There were large attendances, but a lack of optimism, at the four centres. 1 ” The mine-owners’ compromise terms were rejected, but at Adamstown the men. voted in favour of returning to work hy a large majority. _ , It was stated by the miners’ officials that there were only sufficient funds in view to continue the strike pay on the present scale for six weeks, after which the miners would have to ha content with half rates.
