KAIRANGA COUNTY.
MEETING OF COUNCIL. Cr. J. Batchelar presided over the monthly meeting of the Kairanga County Council to-day. Also present Crs. Collis, Cheetham, Anderson, Moody, Hopcroft, Mercer, Voes andSmith. The action of the special committee in accepting a. tender for the tar'sealing of a further 2} miles of Foxton Line was confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. The Feilding Farmers’ Freezing Co., Ltd., wrote stating that.it would facilitate the driving of ; stock if the Railway Road on the left hand of the line was made available. At present the main highway had to be used. —Cr. Anderson considered that the suggestion was a good one, and on his motion it was decided to throw the road open. The committee of the New Zealand Obstetrical Endowment Appeal wrote asking for a donation to the funds for the obstetrical chair. Manawatu was stiH '2OO short’ of its quota at the time of writing.—The chairman said that the movement for an obstetrical chair appeared to be a good one, but on the motion of Cr Small, seconded by Cr. Cheetham, it was decided to hold the matter over for a month. . Mrs G. G. Hancox ..also wrote soliciting support for the appeal. An offer from Mr F. Marsh, of Bunnythorpe, to lease the grazing rights of portion of Railway Road was accepted. The Railway Department wrote stating that representations had been made by the Milson Progressive Association for lighting on the bridge over the deviation. The writers expressed the opinion that the matter was not one for the department but for the council. —It was decided to reply fliat as the bridge was an obstruction on the county’s road, erected by the department, the latter should pay for the Borough Council wrote pointing out that the Round Bush was rapidly deteriorating. It -was suggested that the council should support a request to the Crown Lands Department asking for the reserve to be vested in a board of control, consisting of representatives of the Foxton, Fending and Palmerston -North Borough Councils and the Manawatu and Kairanga County Councils.: —It was decided to take no action in the matter. Mr W. C. Burrows, of Kelvin Grove, wrote asking for improvements to his drainage as there was an undue amount of water on his property.- Cr. Anderson outlined a proposal for a small drain which would require little maintenance. The matter was referred to the Engineer and the councillors for the riding. . . , .„ A letter was received from settlers in the Fitzherbert district complaining of lack of water.—lt was considered that the matter was one for the. Fitzherbert Water Race Board and it was referred to that body. The engineer was. instructed to complete the metalling of Settler’s Line..
