ASLEEP IN HUT.
ACCUSED WANTS WORK. MAGISTRATE MAKES CERTAIN. Charged with being found early this morning in a shunter’s hut at the Palmerston North railway yards without lawful excuse, although not in such circumstances as indicated intention to commit an offence, James Percy Holland, appeared before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court to-day. “I was there all right,” stated accused. "I went there to see a railway man. I had been on a heavy drinking bout and fell asleep. _ If given a chance, I will go back into the country and obtain work. “This is another plausible individual who seems to be a barnacle on society,” commented Sergeant Hill. “He came to Palmerston North ten days ago and incurred a debt of 12s 6d for his bus fare. He told the driver he had no money, but prospects of obtaining it. However, he drifted on, and obtained lodgings at an hotel on the same representation for _ a week until lie was put out. He is really •a danger to society through his trespassing on the generosity of drivers, hotelkeepers and others.” “I think that we had better be certain that you do receive a chance to obtain some work,” said the Magistrate to defendant. “You are sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour.”
