WEST END SCHOOL.

BAZAAR IN AID OF BATHS. . *. Organised by the ladies’ committee, under the leadership of Mrs C. H. Whitehead, there was a successful opening, yesterday afternoon, at the bazaar held, in the West End School assembly hall to pay off the indebtedness on the school baths. The hall was nicely decorated and was lined with stalls, all of which did good business. The bazaar was opened by the Mayor, who was introduced by the chairman of the committee, Mr Whitehead, the latter outlining the purpose of the effort. Mr Graham, in declaring the bazaar open, congratulated the ladies, and all associated ' with them, on the preparations they had made. The' residents of West End were energetic and sparing of neither time nor money, for the, welfare of the children. It was hoped that £l6O would be raised so that the baths would be free of debt. Hard work had beendone and he wished the_ ladies the success they deserved. His Worship asked the boys apd girls of the school never to forget what was being done for them. Cheers were given for Mr Graham and a posy was presented to Mrs Graham by little Madge Price. • , Mesdames Whitehead and Moore supervised tiio conduct of the bazaar and the stall-holders were as follow: —School stall, Misse3 Cleary, Pimley, Cooper, Sanders and Rogers and Messrs. Atwood and Ducker; sweets, Mesdames Beattie, Phillipps, Griffin and Lawson Smith; cakes, Mesdames Thompson and Kelly; produce, Mesdames Blackbourn and Robertson; bran tub, Mrs Edwards and Miss Blackbourn: flowers, Mesdames W. and C. Child and Miss Lee; drapery, Mesdames Sievert, Puklowski and Warner and Mi6s Puklowski; afternoon tea, Mesdames Mudgway, senr.,‘ and junr., Downing, Lyne and McEwen. Valuable assistance was given by the men’s committee and the headmaster, Mr F. W. Moore, and his staff. The children also gave help wherever they could be of use. Competitions resulted as follow: Hose and fittings, Mrs Davis, Racecourse Road; set of lingeries, Mrs Warner, Botanical Hoad; blue doll, Miss Anna Christiansen: pink doll, Miss E. Andrews; box of chocolates, Mrs R. Port. ' The tug-of-war heats resulted: —’ First' heat: Apollo Gvronasium (o7st 2!bs) defeated Regent Movies (59st 81bs) in the first and third pulls. Second heat:. Huskies (64st 21bs) ' .neat Toeroes (63st . 41bs) in the first and second pulls. Third heat: La£t Hope (63st) beat Power Board (63st lib) in the first and third pulls. ;.. Fourth heat:. High Tension. (65st). beat .Johansen’s Navvies (60st 121bs) ‘ in_ the first and second pulls. Miranui won by default from United. The finals will be contested to-niodit.
