THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. The anti-cyclone to the eastward is at last moving rapidly away. A shallow depression is advancing on to the Dominion and a new and intense anticyclone is now centred over Tasmania. Winds northerly, freshening somewhat, backing to, southerly 6oon in the south and over the remainder of the Dominion later. A considerable swell on the East Coast, but otherwise smooth to moderate. Winds becoming southerly and moderate to fresh in the Eastern Tasman Sea with generally moderate seas. Weather mainly fair, but cloud increasing and scattered showers developing in most districts, but more especially over the South Island. Temperatures becoming cooler. Indications of a further period of fine weather following. DISTRICT REPORT. FAIR TOCLOUDY. The Government meteorologist wired to-day: The indicatiqns are for moderate northerly winds and veering by east to south, then freshening. There is a prospect of fair to cloudy weather and increasing haze and cloudiness, with some showers later. The barometer is unsteady. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon. —9in.
