THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. The anti-cyclone is moving very slowly eastward off New Zealand, but is intensifying. A rather intense cyclone is centred east of Tasmania. Freshening north-easterly to northerly winds, reaching gale ‘ force in places north of Kawhia and East Cape. Seas generally smooth to moderate, but rising north of East Cape. Northerly winds increasing strong to gale force in the Eastern Tasman Sea, with rising seas. Weather mainly fair, but with increasing cloud and in places mist or fog. Ram developing soon in North Auckland, gradually extending southward and becoming general later, with many heavy falls. Temperatures mild. DISTRICT REPORT. WARM TEMPERATURES. The Government meteorologist wired to-day:—The indications are for moderate north-easterly winds. There is a prospect of fair weather, with mixed and hazy conditions. Expect. warm temperatures. The barometer is falling slowly. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon. —9in.
