WORK MAY CEASE.
YORKSHIRE WOOLEN MILLS. LONDON, March 31. Week-end meetings of the textile workers of Yorkshire have strengthened the belief of the trade union executives that they will cease work when the cuts in wages take effect on April 12. Representatives of the general council of the Trade Union Congress, who are visiting Bradford, hope that the Minister of Labour will intervene to avert a prolonged stoppage, but at present there are no indications of either side giving way. Prayers for a wise and just settlement were offered in all Yorkshire Anglican and Free Church churches on Sunday.
The employers last week announced their intention to post notices of reductions in wages in accordance with tho report of Mr H. P. Macmillan, who declared that reductions were imperative, because of tho depressed state of tho industry and made suggestions involving cuts of from 8 to '9 per cent.
