ASHHURST SCHOOL.
RETIRING TEACHER FAREWELLED. (From Our Own Correspondent.) ASHHURST, April 1. On Monday afternoon a largo number of parents and friends gathered at the Ashhurst School to bid farewell to Mrs Orgias who is retiring from tho teaching profession on superannuation. For the past nine years Mrs Orgias has been infant mistress of tho school and practically all of tho present school children havo passed through her capable hands. Rev. Mr Parker, the headmaster (Mr H. Fenwick), and Mr W. Brewer, chairman of the School Committee, all spoke in eulogistic terms of Mrs Orgias’s excellent work in tho school and expressed the regret all felt at her retirement. After a neat little speech, Miss Kathleen Brewer, on behalf of tho school children, presented Mrs Orgias with a handsome bronze figure clock, a beautiful hand-painted roso bowl and a case of silver spoons, whilst on behalf of tho teachers and school committee, Mr W. Brower preesnted her with a supply of table silverware. Mr Orgias replied feelingly on Mrs Orgias’s behalf. During tho afternoon a number of musical items and a few recitations given by the children were greatly appreciated. After the singing of “For She's a Jolly Good Follow” and tho dismissal of tho children, tho adults retired to afternoon tea in tho infant room, where many of the parents took . tho opportunity of personally thanking Mrs Orgias for her caro and interest in thoir little ones, and of expressing thoir regret at her retirement. Mrs Orgias’s place in tho school will bo taken to-morrow by Miss Wilkinson, from Lytton Street School, Feilding, whilst Miss Ranson, who has been relieving hero sinco February, will bo replaced by Miss E. Dowsott who, though appointed at tho beginning of the year, has been absent on sick leave.
