FLAXCUTTING FATALITY.
TERRIBLE WOUND INFLICTED. SLASHER BLADE STRIKES EMPLOYEE. Suffering from a terrible wound inflicted in the back of his neck by the blade of a heavy slasher, Albert A’Court, a single man aged 28, was admitted to the Palmerston North Hospital at 7 o’clock last night. He succumbed to his injuries at 3-a.m. today, their nature from the start having been regarded as fatal. It is understood that Mr A’Court was cutting flax for Whitanui, Ltd., in a swamp between Foxton and Shannon, yesterday, when the blade of his slather, loosened by the constant jerking movement in cutting operations, flew off the handle and struck him on the back of the neck, making a gash three inches deep and cutting through the main vessels. Information concerning the exact circumstances of the accident is vague, but further inquiries are being made bv the police. The wound is stated to bo an unusual one. An inquest will be held later. Deceased’s mother resides at Wairoa.
