THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. The southern depression has now passed to the eastward of New Zealand and an intense anti-cyclone, which was centred yesterday east of Tasmania, is advancing from the west. There are indications of a disturbance on the central East Coast of Australia. Winds south-west to south-east; moderate to strong and freshening on the East Coast, rieas moderate north of East Cape; elsewhere moderate to rather rough and increasing south of Castlepoint. Moderate to fresh southerly winds and moderate seas in the Eastern Tasman Sea. Weather cool and changeable with scattered showers; soon improving on the West Coast of the South Island, but becoming more generally showery in eastern districts. DISTRICT REPORT, COOL AND CHANGEABLE. The Government meteorologist wired to-day: The indications are for moderate to strong south easterly winds. The weather will probably be cool and changeable, with some isolated clearing showers, but conditions will improve. The barometer is rising slowly. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon. —3in.
