WOODVILLE, March 10. Mr J. Chicken, who is visiting Woodville on holiday, was one of the founders of the local brass band and tho riflo club. He is renowing many old acquaintanceships. Mrs 11. Bcotliam, of Mastorton, is visiting her mother, Mrs S. Bolton, Octe. Mr D. Kcay, town clerk, has returned from the Municipal Conference at Invercargill. Dr and Mrs Redman have returned to Blenheim after visiting Woodvilio. Ensign and Mrs Knight have gono to Wellington to a Salvation Army conference. Mr William Hildreth, of Wellington, has been visiting his son, Mr W. Hildreth. The coming-of-ago of Mr Hector* Morgan, son of Mr and Mrs C. B. Morgan, was celebrated at a gathering at Ngawapurua on Friday evening, dancing and cards whiling away several pleasant hours. A bountiful supper was served. Mr 11. McNeil has returned from the firo brigades’ gathering at Whangarei. Mrs It. Richards has returned from Wellington. Rev. W, B. Cuming has returned from tho Methodist Conference at Wellington. A match between Woodville and Hinomoa tennis clubs was played on the local courts on Saturday, and resulted in a win for Woodville by 136 games to 125. Afternoon tea was provided by the ladies. Monyhan and Mrs Bell beat Hayes and Mrs Homo 9—B, Phillips and Mrs Wilson lost to Williams and Miss Lynch 6—9, Mackay and Miss Wakelin lost to Turnbull and Miss Mackay 6 —9. Men’s doubles.—Monyhan and Phillips lost to Reid and Hayes 6 —9. Tho fire brigade members and their friends held an enjoyable picnic at Kumeroa on Sunday. Tho Municipal Boys’ Band, under Conductor Lawn, rendered a programme of music in tho Square on Sunday evening when there was a large attendance of tho public. The following rinks will represent tho Woodville Bowling Club against Oroua on Wednesday for the Entwistlo Shield. —At Feilding: Aim, Bly, Curry, Mules; Grinlinton, Lyon. Pearson, Cuming. At home: James, McCormack, Nicholas, Horne; Nelson, Spackman, Haves, Wardrop. Dannovirke and Woodville cricket teams met at the local grounds on Saturday, the local players making a disastrous exhibition against the keen bowling of the opposition. An excellent exhibition of batting was given by Pickard (Dannovirke), who contributed 89.
