FEILDING

B.P.C.A. (Special to “Standard.”) FEILDING, Feb. 26. Mr H.-Mclntyro presided over a meeting of tho committee of the Feilding branch of tho S.P.C.A. on Monday night. The inspector’s report) was adopted as follows: —“A reported case of alleged cruelty to a dog in the country was enquirecl into, but as the iiminal showed no trace of ilUreatment no steps wero taken. I have made a special trip from It Gilding to Halcombe, Stanway, part of Waituna, Cheltenham and Colytor* as to tho state of working toams, and am glad to state that I havo no complaint to bring before the society. During one of our Bpclis of warm weather I observed in a paddock near the borough boundary that them was an absence of water, Communicating with the owner by telephone, tho 6tock were watered at once. A weekly inspection has been made of the auction mart and stock sales. I have again warned various poultry buyers and sellers as to providing reasonable space for the fowls in then boxes. As regards the pig trade, they realty deserve better treatment at times, especially in this sultry dry weather. Pigs are frequently brought to tho sale in old manure sacks, which is a cruel practice. I have from time to time inspected travelling stock by rail and given notice as to what I consider over-crowding of pigs in trucks. The following animals have boon destroyed : One draught mare, two dogs, ° n fhe°ffispector also reportod that he had collected £l7 2s 6d in subscriptions during the cuirent year. To augment the funds of the branch it waa decided to apply to the McCarthy Trust Fund for a G. J. Fitzpatrick was elected to the presidency of the branch, vice Mr J. S. Tingey, resigned. DEDICATION FESTIVAL. Tho dedication festival of St. John’s Church is being observed to-day. Holy Communion was hold at 7.30 this morning while the festival service will be hold this evening at 7.30. At this service tho chonwill be augmented by the choirs of the neigbouring parishes so that the choral work should bo a feature of the service. Rev. D. T. Davies, Vicar of Greytown, will take the service. PERSONAL. Mr B. Cahill, son of Sergeant and Mrs Cahill of Feilding, has been successful in obtaining his LL.M. degree. Mr Cahill, who is not yet 24 years of age, already has his B.A. and LL.B. degrees. SCHOOL PICNIC. Tho annual picnic of the Cheltenham School was held at Almadalo on Saturday in excellent weather. There was a large attendance of children and adults, all of whom spent a most enjoyable time bathing and playing games. Tho following wero tho results of tho sports evonts: Boys, 5 and 6: R.
