Tho local horseman is uncertain as to tho length of his stay but it can be assumed that, all going woli, Nightmarch will bo in Australia for a considerable period. A meeting of the committee of the Manawatu Trotting Club waa held on Monday night when preparations in connection with the annual fixture to be held at Ashhurst next month were furthered. In the absence of the president, Mr W. Mouldey, who has been indisposed for some time past, Mr J. R. Anderson, vice-president, occupied the chair. The following appointments in connection •with the annual fixture were made: —Clerk of tho course, Mr J. J. Waller; judicial committee, Messrs W. Mouldey, D. Munro, L. H. Collinson, N. H. Sinclair and J. R. Anderson; paddock stewards, Messrs J. A. Russell, E. B. Vine and R. Emmett; birdcage stewards, Mr E. F. Thwaites and J. A. Mitchell and H. Guy; control and starting stewards, Mr E. F. Thwaites and members of tho committee as required; totalisator •toward, Mr R. McDonald.

The Woodvillo Band was engaged to supplay a musical programme on the day. Messrs J. A. Mitchell and H. J. Woodfield offered to supply sulkies which could be used by visiting owners in the event of something untoward placing their own sulkies out of commission, the offer being accepted with thanks. Advice was received from the Railway authorities that a special train would leave Palmerston North for Ashhurst at 10.30 •’clock on the morning of the club's races, fight new members wero elected.
