THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. A shallow but extensive low-pressure area covers the Tasman Sea and SouthEastern Australia. South-east to east winds, later backing to north-east; light to moderate but freshening later. Seas rather rough between Akaroa and East Cape and about Cook Strait: elsewhere moderate in New Zealand waters. Variable winds with east to north prevailing and freshening somewhat; seas generally smooth to moderate. Weather dull and misty with rain developing, scattered at first, but later becoming more general. Temperatures milder. DISTRICT REPORT, SCATTERED SHOWERS. The Government metorologist wired to-day: The indications are for variable and moderate breezes, moderate northerly winds prevailing. Expect dull weather, with much mist and fog in parts, with scattered showers. The rain will probably be mainly light. The barometer is unsteady and shows little movement. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE.
