PARKING PROBLEM.
VIEWS OF FARMERS. Parking problems in Palmerston North were discussed by the meeting of the Dairy Farmers’ Union yesterday afternoon. The Rangiotu branch forwarded an objection to the present system of parking cars, contending that for country people backing-in' was much more satisfactory. “It seems that the present method is far and away the better. It is much simpler than backing-in, which is out of date,” commented Mr G. Boyce. Mr C. D. Fraser stated that with head-in parking one-third of the space available was being lost. “We used to back in four cars where only two can now be parked.” , “They don’t seem to be giving the present method a fair chance,” stated Mr G. Boyce. “There seems to be some passive resistance,” remarked Mr C. Fraser. “You would think that this place was New York according to the fuss made,” said Mr G. Poupard. Opinions were expressed that the lines had been painted at a greater angle than was really necessary. Mr Boyce moved that the borough be congratulated on bringing in headin parking. (Cries of “Oh” and “Out of order.”) Mr Boyco added that insistence should be made on the observance of the parking lines. “Perhaps it is just as well to leave the present system alone unless we voice our disapproval,” stated Mr A. J. Gimblett. “Let us have a bit more experience,” stated Mr Mason in moving an amendment that the matter be field over until the end of the parking trial two months hence.
This action was decided upon by the meeting.
