TOKOMARU.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) TOKOMARU, Feb. 10. Mr C. Young and Miss R. Hunt are at present visiting friends in Dannevirko. Miss Walbur, of Lepperton, is the guest of Mr and Mrs J. Gilmour. Mrs C. Osman was a visitor to Wellington during last week. Mr H. Gibbs, of Otaki, has been the guest of Mr and Mrs W. Parr. On Saturday the Baptist Church annua! picnic was held at the Horseshoe Bend, and the day, being ideal for the ocasion was much enjoyed. Games and swimming were the chief attractions. Mr A. Stevenson and Mr R. Hewitson were the conveners. On Wednesday last a very successful meeting was held in the local hall with the purpose of forming a Women’s Institute. The meeting was opened by Mrs WaringTaylor, of Shannon, and after discussing the beneficial cause of the Institute the ladies elected their committee who are:— Mrs Webb, president; Mrs A. Burt, vicepresident; Mrs L. Whyte, secretary; Mrs J. H. P. Liggins, treasurer; Mrs Ella, Mrs H. Biggins, Mrs R. Baylia, Mrs F. Gyde, Mrs N. Whyte, Miss L. B. Mackenzie and Miss H. Gloyn. It was decided to have the meetings on the first Wednesday of every month. Visitors from Shannon were Mrs Taylor, Mrs Pattern, Mrs Burling and Mrs Mackenzie, and Mrs West, of Rongotea.
