(From Our Own Correspondent.) SHANNON, Feb. 10. The Athletic Club has decided to go on with the work of tar-sealing the cycle track in the Domain. It should be a great acquisition. It was resolved to apply to tho Centro for permission to hold a sports meeting on March 15th. Shannon Cricket Club added a further two points to their championship 6Core on Saturday' by defeating Paraparaumu. Shannon batted first, compiling 106 runs: — T. Roach 10, D. Mercer 9, D. Gee 0, J. Mabey 23, F. Picard 11, S. Spencer 1, W. King 18, F. Brady 12, R. Downes 0, A. McEwon 0, J. Mason (not out) 9; extras 13. Paraparaumu made 92 in their first innings:— Webber 3, C. Johnston 36, D. Sweetman 3, H. Weggery 1, E. Weggery 0, O. Lynch 19, S. Dealy 2, Reeve 0, Udy 0, A. Johnson 11, W. Warman (not out) 1, extras 16. The local cricket club blbo played a team from Wellington during the week-end, being victorious by 37 runs. Shannon made 131 in the first innings, tho principal scores being D. Gee (18), S. Spencer (47), V. Pope (14) and T. Brady (11). J. Watkins, of the visiting team, made 41. The bowling and croquet greens presented an animated scene on Saturday afternoon when, in glorious weather, tho Levin Bowling club paid a visit to Shannon. One rink (Suhan Langclan, J. Brown and Bull) played tho holders of the Kinneburgli Feathers, C. Hoik, Jones, Whibley and Quarrie, tho Feathers going to Levin by 22 to 10. Other matches were played, Shannon winning on the aggregate by 69 points to 67. The scores were, (Shannon mentioned first) :—Kensman, Downes, Bovis, Morgan 19, Clements, Hutchins, Brewster, Clements 22; Cronqucst, Alexander, Roach, H. Butt 29, Clift, Fletcher, Pike, Sherwood 14; Aim, Mark, Knowles, Henry 21, Bryant, Ware, Brown, Hawko 31.
Mr Sherwood in returning thanks for the afternoon’s hospitality extended an invitation to Shannon to visit Levin during the coming month. The Croquet Club was favoured with a visit from Mrs R. D. Gambrill, of Palmerston North, on Saturday afternoon. _ Mrs Gambrill showed a keen interest in the local players, giving many helpful hints, and members would welcome many more visitors of this kind.
The Mayor and councillors paid a visit to Levin at the week-end, to inspect roads tar-sealed by the Levin council and as a result of the visit, the first two chains of the local borough highway will be tar-sealed during the next fortnight. This work is to be carried out as an experiment, and, should it prove satisfactory, tho remainder of the highway will be completed later. Mesdames Roach, Mason, Brann, Snelling, and Bovis, who journeyed to take part in the outside clubs’ tourney report a most hospitable reception and an enjoyable day. The tourney will not bo completed till March.
Mr C. Leighton, secretary of the local cricket club, is confined to tho Palmerston North Hospital 6ulfering with an injured leg.
