ELLERSLIE TRAINING NOTES. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Dec. 21. Rain fell overnight, but the weather, though dull, was fine when training work commenced at Ellerslie this morning. the course proper, with tho poles about 35 feet out from the rails, was available for fast work, while the no. 3 grass track, and the sand and tan wero also used a little. The going was good, though somewhat dead, and there were some interesting gallops. Several cup candidates were out. Those who pleased most were Corinax, Prodice and Paquito. On the course proper, Gold Money jumped away from the five furlong post", running tho first two furlongs in 25secs, and the full distance in 1.5. Eager Rose was not doing her best over six furlongs in 1.22 2-5. Shrewd (H. Wiggins) was given strong work over a mile and a quarter in 3.32. He went very evenly throughout, but was not doing lus best at any stage of the journey. Avoncourt and War Officer finished on terms at the end of live furlongs in 1.7 2-5. Brampton and Neil, together, finished in front of Red Lion over five furlongs in 1.8 1-5. There was little between Pedestal and Hanniball over six furlongs in 1.21 3-5. King .Emerald, alone, got to the end of a mile in 1.49 3-5. Hampton Park ran home from the three furlong peg in 38 1-5, doing it well. Thursby was in front of Kawainga at the end of six furlongs, in 1.22. Honour and Jaloux jumped away at the seven furlong post. After running the first three furlongs in 39 1-5 and half a mile in 51 4-6, with Jaloux in front at this stage, they completed the full distance in 1.32 2-5, Honour having nearly a. length’s advantage when the post was reached. This colt is galloping well and he promises to be a very tough proposition in the Great Northern Derby. Gemlight was in front of Praetor over five furlongs run in 1.6. Dunraven, a two-year-old, and a full brother to Limerick, was sent three furlongs with Drastic, running home in 39. There was not much between them, though Dunraven, on the outside, pleased most. Respirator completed a six furlong task in 1.23 3-5. The best five t furlong gallop of the morning was accomplished by Praise, who beat Greenaway. They ran the first two furlongs in 24 2-5 and came home in 1.4 4-5. . . Toxeuma, Tea Time and Taneriri were in that order after running six furlongs in 1.20. Toxeuma was ridden by E. Stanway and had a good deal the worst of the weights, but pleased most. , , Good Idea ran five furlongs in 1.7 1-5. There was verv little between Currajong and Tetrachate over six furlongs in 1.19 1-5. , • oo Lady’s Boy ran three furlongs in oJ. The two-year-olds. Biddy’s Boy and Tenterden reeled off half a mile in 50 1-5. This was a good effort and both youngsters went well. Vertigern .and Corinax went out to gallop a round on the course proper, but when proceeding down to the starting point on the inside of the course, Vertigern took charge of the rider and bolted a round of the No 3 grass track. The pair were later lined up on the course proper and Corinax, who jumped away slightly in front of his companion, led throughout, beatiaig Vertigern by several lengths. The round was completed in 2.5 2-5; it was the best gallop of the morning over the distance. The last seven furlongs took 1.31, and the last four furlongs 52 3-5. Richfield beat Diamond Queen by several lengths over five furlongs in 1.5 4-5.

Prodice, alone, started off over a round in 2.8, the last seven furlongs taking 1.35, and the final half mile 54 4-5. She went very pleasingly throughout and finished on strongly. This filly is very well. After running tlie first four furlongs in 51 3-5, Amor, Duellona and Pangolin were bunched at the end of seven furlongs in 1.33. Duellona, on the outside, pleased most. Hyde Park covered a mile in 1.47 1-5.

The Cup candidates, Paq lito and Count Cavour, jumped away at the top of the straight, and though the former got a bit of a break on at the start, Count Cavour was with him as they reached the mile and _ a-quarter post. They covered the distance in 2.17 2-5, with Count Cavour a shade in front when they passed the post. They ran the last round in 2.7 2-5 and the final six furlongs in 1.22 3-5. Both horses did their work well, but Paquito was going much easier. Count Palatine and King Midas were allotted a seven furlong task, but they were not timed over the full journey. They ran the last half mile in 54.

Owing to the number of acceptors in the Robinson Handicap, the Auckland Racing Club has decided to divide the event and increase the stake money, £6OO to each winner, £35 to the owner of the second horse and £lo for the owner of the third horse. GUNCASE NOT IN HURDLES. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Dec. 21. Guncase was not among the acceptors in. tho hurdles at the Dunedin Jockey Club meeting.
