FAKE SUICIDE

STAGED BY RICHARD BROPHY. FORMER MEMBER OF BYRD EXPEDITION. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received December 4, 1 p.m. NEW YORK, Dec. 3. Richard Brophy, who was formerly second in command of the Byrd expedition, staged a fake suicido at Coney Island last August with the object of getting out of sight. He succeeded, until an editor of Omaha, who had been looking over pictures of the Byrd expedition last week, recognised a man working on his staff as Brophy. Upon the di l:overy, Brophy agreed to return to his sick wife in New York, but overnight he again disappeared. It was alleged that his friendship with a Broadway actress caused complications with Commander Byrd and led to his dismissal in Dunedin.
