SECONDARY INDUSTRIES.
DEVELOPMENT AIMED AT. COMMITTEE TO INVESTIGATE. (By Telegraph—Special to Standard). AUCKLAND, Nov. 14. The select committee appointed by Parliament to consider means of increasing the efficiency of, and development of, certain secondary industries will not commence its deliberations until after the New Year. A statement to this effect was made by Mr A. Harris, M.P., who is a member of the committee. Other members are the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Hon. J. G. Cobbe and Messrs H. R. Jenkinson and D. G. Sullivan, M.P.’s. The order of reference which the committee will follow has not been made available, but it is known that an investigation will be made into the coach and motor body building industry, engineering, blacksinithing, rope and twine Works, fruit preserving and jam making and woollen mills and clothing. - , ~ .. A request has also been made that the scope of the inquiry be widened to include the New Zealand footwear industrv. The local members of the committee have not yet been advised in which centre the deliberations will commence. It will be necessary, however, to visit a great many cities and towns in bota islands.
