RAILWAY SERVICES.
A POINT ILLUSTRATED. (By Telegraph—Special to Standard.) AUCKLAND, Nov. 7. ' A lady in Cromwell who sent a bag of potatoes to a friend in Pukekohe caused laughter at the Auckland Adr vertising Club’s luncheon when her exploit was used by Mr G. G. Stewart, publicity manager of the Railway Department, to illustrate a point he was making in regard to the services offered by the railways. He said that there had been extraordinary instances of people sending unusual goods tremendous distances in small lots, and but for-the through distances in the booking service of ; the Railway. Department, the cost of such consignments would be very heavy.
