RECORD LETTER WRITER.
SUSSEX CLERGYMAN’S CLAIM. Who is the world’s record letter writer? asks the London Daily Mail. This does not include those fond lovers who send almost hourly notes to their dearests, or those dutiful husbands, who, when absent on business in other parts of the country, indite notes to their wives whenever they have a spare few minutes. It refers to those pub-lic-Bpirited persons who write to the newspapers. Rev. J.. P. Bacon-Phillips, of Burgess Hill, Sussex, in a letter to the Daily Mail, claims to have sent 60,000 letters and postcards to newspapers. He has added to the family motto. “Courage and Industry” that “While I live I Write.” The Daily Mail estimates that Rev. Mr Phillips has written 5,000,000 words, equal to 60 novels, or four times the length of all Shakespeare’s plays. Of the letters, 6000 were printed. The run-ner-up is Mr B. Simmons, who has bad 3163 printed from 11,000 written.
