RONGOTEA

TENNIS AND CROQUET CLUB. (From Our Own Correspondent.) RONGOTEA, Oct. 12. The annual meeting of tho Rongotoa Tennis and Croquet Club was held m tno Masonic Hail on Friday evening when Mr A. Maden presided over a fair attendance of members. The secretary read the chairman’s report as follows: —“In presenting tho annual report and balance-sheet, I desire to congratulate the club on its efforts to renew interest in tho wholesome «port of tennis, also on its having changed a debit balance into a credit balanco. lhe roceipts for tho year amounted to £lB 12s 2d, and tho expenditure to £l4 15s lid, leaving a credit balance of £3 6s 3d, which may be considered a satisfactory result when it is taken into consideration that at tho beginning of tile season there was a debit balance of £7. Unfortunately, tho club was unable to play any club matches owing to the membership being small and to having few players of sufficient training to permit of challenges being either given or recoivod. Soveral of tho younger players showed considerable promise, and during tho coming season it is hoped that with tho accession of now players the club will again regain sufficient standing to partake in matches with surrounding clubs. I desire to suggest to the incoming committee the desirability of receiving a large membership, also that entry fees, which are ridiculously low, should bo asked for on joining so that sufficient funds will bo on hand to top-dress the courts and renew netting, etc. Wo regret having lost tho services of such a promising player as Mr H. Eades and tako the opportunity of congratulating him on his having received. a position of greater responsibility in Wellington. The club also lost one of its best players when tho club captain, Mr M. C. Amadio, was promoted to tho position of headmaster at Umutoi. Both ho and Mrs Amadio will bo sorely missed during the coming season. In conclusion, 1 would like to thank all those who so willingly helped to keep *,hc courts in order.” Aftor a'lengthy discussion it was decided, on tho motion of Mr E. J. Arnott, seconded by Mr J. Bentley, to lower tho subscriptions to gentlemen 10s, ladies 7s 6d, juniors ss. The election of officers for tho 1929 season resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr L. H. Yarrall; president, Mr A. Maden; vicepresidents, Messrs H. V. Caverhill, J. F. McKelvie, A. N. Norcoin, C. V. Ciochetti, J. Aird, R. A. Buchanan, Dr Watson, Messrs D. F. Road and E. Arnott; secretary, Mr J. Liggins; club captain, Mr Tv. Tunnicliffe; vice-captain, Mr J. Liggins; committee, Misses M. Bower, M. Liggins, and Messrs A. Maden, J. Bentley, J. Liggins and IC. Tunnicliffe. It was decided to officially open the the courts on Saturday, 19th inst., when it is hoped a large crowd will bo in attendance. A vote of thanks to tho chair brought the meeting to a close. OROUA DRAINAGE BOARD.

At tho last monthly meeting of the Oroua Drainage Board, the following were present: Messrs W. Gloyn, C. Watkins, A. Burgess, G. H. Davison. Mr E. V. Somers wrote to the board complaining that slips in drains had not been removed. It was resolved that the letter be received. The secretary was instructed to send a letter of condolence to Mr W.
