Under beautiful weather conditions the Feilding Bowling Club opened its green on Saturday in the presence of a large attendance of visitors from neighbouring towns and the Oroua Club in Feilding. In declaring the green open, Mr A. Williamson, the president, thanked the visitors for their response to the invitation to be present and he hoped they would enjoy their game. The speaker went on to refer to the history of the club and its past presidents, many of whom had gone to their , long rest, but the club was still proud to have some of them on its active membership list. To the work of Mr John Bartholomew, whom he designated as the “father of the Feilding club,” Mr Williamson paid an enthusiastic tribute and he hoped that the .club would long retain his services. Mention was also made by Mr Williaiison of the work of the ladies’ committee in providing refreshments and other catering arrangements.
The president then declared the green open, following which play was indulged in for the afternoon. TENNIS. Favoured by congenial playing conditions, the Feilding Lawn Tennis Club was able to open its courts, for the season on Saturday some considerable time prior to the date on which the opening took place last year. There was a large number of members present and some. visitors from outside clubs were also in attendance. Friendly games were indulged in during the afternoon, the courts being in good order for play, and a most enjoyable afternoon was spent by all. A very acceptable afternoon tea was served by the ladies’ committee. AVIATION :LTJB. Interest in the formation of an Aviation Club in Feilding is still being maintained and at a meeting last week of those interested it was decided to pursue the matter further. It is understood that, if a suitable ground and a hangar were provided, the services of an instructor would be available on certain days for the training of pupils. In any case, the providing of housing requirements would help to make the town a point of call for visiting aeroplanes and assist in stimulating an airjnindedness in the public. ST. JOHN’S TENNIS CLUB. The following report will be presented at the annual meeting of St. John’s Tennis Club:—The membership at the close of. the season was 31 ladies, 24 men, 2 juniors.
