POLICE SUPERANNUATION.

IMPORTANT CHANGES. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Sept. 11. Important changes in the police force superannuation system are to be made this session. The Minister of Justice (Hon. T. M. Wilford) stated in the House of Representatives to-day that lie had a bill drafted and ready for submission, in which alterations were made in respect to police superannuation. “I don’t know what is going to happen,” said Mr Wilford, “because by the way things are going, it docs not look as though any of these ordinary bills are going to have a chance. We are not getting on at all.” The Leader of the Opposition (Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates) : Why not put it at the top of the order paper? Mr Wilford: I have not got this bill through Cabinet yet. Mr Coates: Oh, don’t blame us then. (Loud Opposition laughter). Mr Wilford said it was his plan to re-draft the police superannuation so that men who had been in the force for 35 years would be considered for the purposes of the scheme to have been in the force for 40 years. Mr R. McKeen (Wellington South): You have a large number over that record. Promotion is being held up. Mr Wilford said that the bill would be brought down as soon as possible this session.
