FEILDING.
(Special to “Standard.”) FEILDING, Sept, 4. At thro meeting of the Lytton Street school committee this week, the suggestion was adopted to hold a parents’ day on October 23, when the children’s work will be on exhibition and a programme of entertainment given. Mr J. Penney presided at the meeting and others present were Mesdames Sandford and McCorkindale and Messrs Short, Hay and Hall (headmaster). The headmaster reported that the school roll stood at 325 with an average attendance of 298.6. Inspectors Law and Crosby visited the school during the month and their report indicated that they were satisfied with the progress and discipline of the school. Tho preliminary work in connection with the ground improvements scheme had been completed and plans were well forward for the major work. The committee recorded its thanks to Mrs Dowrick for donating several flowering shrubs, and to Mr F. Mason for the gift of two dozen voses. It was decided, in connection with the proposal to approach the Feilding Agricultural High School for the use of the baths for Lytton Street School pupils, to proceed with the deputation until the High School was assured of an adequate water supply from the Borough Council.
AIANC3ESTER STREET SCHOOL,
In his report for August, -the headmaster of the Manchester Street School (Air R. L. Alcllroy) states the attendances were: Week ending August 2, 418.5, roll 482; August 9, 426.8, roll 485; August 16, 434.7. roll 485; August 23,, 402.9, roll 485. The average for the month was 420.7 being 87 per cent, of the roll. The average for the term just ended was 415.6. and for the jear 429.7, which will keep the school in grade 6B for 1930. The school has reecived from the Borough Council a glass case containing a model of the sailing vessel, Taranaki.
THE AIAKINO STREAAI
Following the rainfall in Feilding on Monday night, tire Makino Stream became swollen, and where the bed is almost level with the low-lying land about a mile from the borough - the water found its way across paddocks to the road. Yesterday, there was quite a quantity of water running parallel with the road.
PERSONAL
Another operation, involving the amputation of a leg below' the knee, had to be performed on Monday afternoon on Mr E. H. Fisher, of Feilding, when his condition was not so satisfactory. Yesterday, however, he was reported to be progressing as well as could be expected.
GENERAL
The following are the results of the Friendly Societies’ card tournament held on Monday night:—Unity 18 v. Druids A 18; Foresters 16 v. Druids B 14. A postponement of tire ladies’ representative hockey match, Oroua v. Feilding, which was to have been decided at Victoria Park to-day, has been necessary, and the match will probably eventuate on Sexitember 25.
MUSICAL.
At tho recent practical pianoforte examination held by Mr Hugo Anson in Feilding for tho Royal. Academy and Royal College of Mus.c (London) the following pupils of Mr Ray R, 1. Jones were successful: —-Harold aims, Betty Williamson, Phyhss Bailey (primary), Nysia Anderson (elementary)*
