SCHOOL ART UNION.

A RELIGIOUS BODY’S PROTEST. DUNEDIN, Aug. 26. A carnival was recently promoted to raise funds for the Caversham School, and one of the methods adopted was an art union. This came to the notice of the Council of Christian Congregations, which unanimously passed the following resolution on the matter:—“That this meeting enters an emphatic protest against the running of an art union in connection with the Caversham public school carnival, and considers that those concerned in the organisation have done a most reprehensible thing in bringing the children of the school and the community into close alliance with the gambling evil. It requests the Otago Education Board to make a close investigation into the matter 60 as to prevent a recurrence.”
